The Black Necked Crane Watch
The Black-necked Crane (Grus nigricollis) is a medium-sized crane in Asia that breeds on the Tibetan Plateau and winters mainly in remote parts of India and Bhutan. It is 139 cm (55 in) long with a 235 cm (7.8 ft) wingspan, and it weighs 5.5 kg (12 lbs). It is whitish-gray, with a black head, red crown patch, black upper neck and legs, and white patch to the rear of the eye. It has black primaries and secondaries. Both sexes are similar. Some populations are known to make seasonal movements. It is revered in Buddhist traditions and culturally protected across much of its range. A festival in Bhutan celebrates the bird while the Indian Ladakh, state of Jammu and Kashmir considers it as the state bird.
The Black Necked comes under endangered species, our trek to this area is mainly to encourage building a good relationship between the bird and the local nomads community, by generation an income or assist to the Nomads, from avitourism. Also make them aware; because of the blacked Neck Crane tourist visit these areas, simultaneously achieves community development and biodiversity conservation.
Outline Itinerary
Day 01:
Arrive Leh and rest
Day 02:
In Leh for more acclimatization and adaptation.
Day 03:
Drive to Rumtse and begin trek to Tisaling
Day 04:
Tisaling-Pongunago camp ( The area know for lots for wild horses (Kyang)
Day 05:
Tsokar Home Stay and spotting bird around the salt lake and marshy land.
Day 06:
Tsokar trek to Puga
Day 07: Puga visit the Nomads School and watch Balcked Nack crane along the long stretch of Sulfur deposit and hot springs.
Day 08:
Full day in Puga meetings local and discuss conservancy and wild life value. Interact with Nomads children and knowledge them on bird’s conservancy and extinction
Day 09;
Drive to Tsomoriri for overnight
Day 10:
Tsomoriri to Leh
Day 11:
In Leh
Day 12:
Fly to Delhi
